New minimum wage for young workers

THE minimum wage for young workers is to be increased alongside the rate for adults later this year, the government announced yesterday.

Apprentices will get a new minimum wage of 2.50 an hour, while the rate for workers aged 16-17 will rise 2 per cent to 3.64 and for those aged 18-20 it rises 1.9 per cent to 4.92. Adults will receive a minimum of 5.93 from October, a rise of 2.2 per cent.
