New entries take pop charts by storm

New entries stormed to the top of the charts last night, taking No 1 in the singles and album Top 40s.

Nicki Minaj took top spot in the UK album chart with Pink Friday – Roman Reloaded, according to the Official Charts Co.

The Trinidadian-born American musician’s second studio album knocked Madonna off the top spot. Her album MDNA entered the chart at No 1 last week, sending the singer into the record books.

But the star’s 12th chart- topping album was pushed down to seventh place this week. Labrinth, whose hit collaboration with Tinie Tempah Pass Out reached No 1 in 2010, went straight in at No 2 with his debut album Electronic Earth.

Top spot in the singles chart was also taken by a brand new entry – Canadian songstress Carly Rae Jepsen, who came third in Canadian Idol in 2007, entered at No 1 with Call Me Maybe. The song is a hit on YouTube, with more than 17 million views.
