Musician creates discord over flat plans

SINGER-songwriter David Gray has been criticised over plans to turn a famous recording studio into a block of flats.

The Church studios in Crouch End, north London, were once owned by 1980s icons Eurythmics, and used by Bob Dylan.

Over the years, the studios have also been the production base for Depeche Mode, Radiohead and the Kaiser Chiefs.

But now Gray, who owns the converted church building, is planning to turn the property into five spacious flats with shops and office space.

Residents and music fans were shocked to learn of the plans, saying the building is part of music folklore and a key part of the community.

Sue Hessel, chairman of Haslemere Road Residents’ Association, said: “This is so sad. Crouch End has enough flats.”
