Murder accused in new health scare

A BUSINESSMAN wanted in South Africa over the honeymoon murder of his wife has been admitted to hospital after his health “seriously deteriorated”, his family said yesterday.

Shrien Dewani was being treated in a secure hospital for depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, so he can be extradited to face the charges.

His family said he had now been transferred to a different hospital, “suffering from chest pains”, and tests suggested he had reacted poorly to medication prescribed as part of his mental health treatment.

Dewani’s bail conditions were altered at a hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, London, his family added.

His wife, Anni, 28, was shot when their taxi was hijacked in Cape Town in November 2010.
