MPs push for Scottish Day at Westminster

MPS want a "Scottish Day" in Westminster with an annual debate on problems north of the Border.

The Scotsman understands the proposal will be included in a report by the Scottish Affairs Select Committee as part of efforts to raise the profile of Scotland in the UK parliament.

Scottish MPs on the committee will also call for an end to a self-imposed ban on them talking about devolved issues, such as education.

One Scottish MP said of the ban: "If there is a problem with a hospital or a school in my constituency, voters don't accept I should not discuss it."

A Scottish Day in Westminster would echo the annual Welsh Day, held on a date near St David's Day, 1 March.
