Morrisons targets corner shop niche

supermarket chain Morrisons is aiming to expand into the UK corner shops market, according to a new report.

Trade magazine The Grocer reported that Morrisons has held exploratory talks with Costcutter as it seeks to gain a proper foothold in the convenience market.

The UK’s fourth largest supermarket is battling to compete with rivals Tesco and Sainsbury’s which have enjoyed additional success by moving into smaller, convenience stores in high streets and suburbs across the country.
