Military Wives composer has fingers crossed

THE SCOTS composer of Wherever You Are, the Military Wives’ song set to be Christmas number one, could set a new record.

Dr Paul Mealor, a music teacher at Aberdeen University, said he would be the first classical composer to hit the top of the pop charts at Christmas.

The song, which will raise money for forces’ charities, has sold more than 350,000 copies since its release on Monday – outselling the rest of the Top 20 combined.

If it does displace X Factor winners Little Mix at the top, he will celebrate a double success as his album A Tender Light, has been top of the classical charts for five weeks.

Dr Mealor, 36, said: “If it gets to number one it will be unbelievable. I don’t think a classical composer has ever had the Christmas number one.

“We are keeping our fingers crossed because you never know, but the sales have been unbelievable. People are coming out to support this in massive droves.”
