Much of that money has been claimed via the House of Lords’ daily expense allowance of £300, which Lady Mone had claimed before giving it to charity, according to aides.
Last year Lady Mone suggested she would give away any expenses to charity, telling BBC’s Woman’s Hour: “I’ve decided I’m not going to take expenses into the House of Lords. I’m looking into if I can donate it to a few charities.”
Lady Mone’s aides did not disclose the charity or charities she gave her expenses to, but said they would be announced annually.
The underwear entrepreneur was inducted into the House of Lords in October as a Tory peer, and claimed a total of £3,900 up to November. She has given an additional £1,000 to charity, according to the Herald.
Aides said she gave “every penny” to charity.
