Men spend more than women on themselves

Men are more self-indulgent than women, splashing out £18 more a month on gifts for themselves, a survey has revealed.

Britons spend an average of £62.70 on themselves a month, with the average man parting with £72.20, compared to the average £54.20 women set aside to treat themselves. In total, the UK population spends £1.6 billion on themselves every month.

Michael Woodburn, chief marketing officer of Capital One, which carried out the survey, said: “Consumers are spending £19.2bn each year on treats for themselves.

“The savviest of these consumers are benefiting financially when they treat themselves to a gift, by making sure they are paid cash back on their purchases and ensuring that they pay [their credit card bill] in full each month.”
