Man conned immigrants of £30,000

A CONMAN has been found guilty of defrauding almost £30,000 from immigrants hoping to live and work in the UK.

Jack Plancey, 68, was convicted of fraud offences between May 2004 and June 2005.

He denied the allegations and claimed he was ill and did not set out to defraud anybody. But after a two-week trial, the jury found Plancey, of Carleton Gate, Giffnock, guilty of five charges.

His registration with the regulatory body, the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC), ended in July 2005.

He was de-registered between September 2004 and March 2005, before re-registering for a short time.

A spokeswoman for the OISC said: “If someone is operating without being regulated by us, then they are breaking the law and may be subject to criminal prosecution.”

Sheriff Martin Jones, QC, deferred sentencing until next month.

Plancey was released on bail.
