Man arrested at BNP rally

A 35-YEAR-old man was charged with breach of the peace yesterday during a
British National Party rally in Midlothian.

The man was part of a BNP demonstration at Dalkeith Country Park against the rehousing of a convicted rapist close to where he attacked a Dutch student in 2005.

Around 20 people turned up with the party’s leader Nick Griffin to protest against Robert Greens, the so-called Da Vinci rapist. They were met by about 30 anti-fascist demonstrators.

The man was arrested soon after the demonstration began, a police spokesman said.

He has been charged with a breach of the peace and will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

Superintendent Phil O’Kane of Lothian and Borders Police said: “The police operation was centred on keeping our communities safe.

“I would like to thank the public for their patience and co-operation.”
