Man and child die in separate crashes

A man and a child have died following separate crashes last night.

The child died in hospital after a collision on the A75 Gretna to Stranraer road at Hardgrove crossroads, about one mile east of Carrutherstown, between Dumfries and Annan.

Police said four people, including the child, were taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary and treated for various injuries following the crash at 5pm. The child later died.

The cars involved were a silver Ford Focus, a black Honda Civic and a blue Renault Clio.

The road is now open but was closed for a number of hours after the incident while a crash investigation took place.

The man died in another three vehicle collision in Edinburgh at around 7.40pm.

Lothian and Borders Police said the crash happened on Maybury Road and involved a Renault Clio, a Subaru and a Peugeot Boxer van.

The road was closed for five hours while an investigation took place.

Officers from Dumfries and Galloway and Lothian and Borders have appealed for any witnesses to the incidents to come forward.
