London 2012 Olympics: Transport network said to be operating extremely well

LONDON’S transport network was said to be operating extremely well last night, as thousands of people travelled to the opening ceremony.

Transport for London (TfL) said that, while services were very busy, there were no major delays on the mainline or Tube.

The Westfield Stratford City shopping centre closed to the public from 3pm, and people without tickets to the Olympic Park ceremony were asked to avoid the Stratford area.

After the event, Tube services were to run until 2:30am, while train services were being extended until the early hours.

TfL expects an average daily increase in capacity of three million journeys during the Games.
