Leveson Inquiry: PM to be grilled at inquiry

TOPPING the bill at the Leveson inquiry this week will be the Prime Minister, who will be giving a full day of evidence on Thursday.

David Cameron will expect to be grilled on his close friendship with former News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks and whether this compromised his government, not least on Rupert Murdoch’s attempts to take full ownership of BSkyB.

He will be questioned on whether he made any deals with Murdoch to get the support of his papers in the 2010 election, and on his decision to appoint and then stick by former News of the World editor Andy Coulson.

This is the week of prime ministers, with Sir John Major, above, also due to take the stand today.

The highlight tomorrow will be First Minister Alex Salmond, who has been criticised for standing by the Murdochs following the phone-hacking revelations.
