Leaders not proactive about fossil fuels

GOVERNMENTS are not facing up to the need to wean economies off fossil fuels, a former chief scientific adviser has warned.

Professor Sir David King said the transport sector contributed a "very significant proportion" of carbon emissions and relied heavily on fossil fuels – such as kerosene to keep planes flying.

"The transport sector – on land, sea and air for both people and freight – contributes a very significant proportion of carbon emissions. It is also one considered to be the most challenging," he said.
