She was quickly criticised by Twitter users such as Piers Morgan, who described her as a “repulsive creature” while other members of the public such as Fraser Stewart (@fraserstewart7) wrote: “Scotland has Ebola. England has Katie Hopkins. Glad I’m up here.”
Hopkins went on to tweet Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister, and say: “Dear small woman, the people of England would like a thank you for the health care we are providing your ebola victim.”
In the past year Hopkins, who appears to make a living from her controversial views, complained about the “negligence” of Kate and Gerry McCann and parenting skills of the late Peaches Geldof and she has also called Travellers and Gypsies “feral humans”.
Yesterday’s controversial tweets provoked a swift backlash, with Kay Gillespie (@thechaoticscot) tweeting: “Never mind Ebola, can someone place @KTHopkins in isolation so we aren’t infected with her disgusting opinions? She is a disease.”
However, a few people recognised her comments as a bid to garner publicity, as Michael McHugh wrote: “Yet another desperate attempt for publicity from the vile creature @KTHopkins. I’m surprised the police haven’t shut her down yet!”
