‘join us for £1’

SHADOW defence secretary Jim Murphy has appealed to “hundreds of Scottish squaddies and their families” to join the Labour Party for a cut-price membership rate of £1.

Mr Murphy told the conference Labour had changed its membership rules to allow servicemen and women to join at the discounted rate.

After his speech, Mr Murphy, a former Scottish secretary, made a specific appeal to the “great service personnel from Scotland and those stationed in Scotland” to take advantage of the offer.

He said: “I want hundreds of Scottish squaddies and their families to join the Labour Party, and now, from today, if you are a veteran you can for the first time ever join the Labour Party for just £1.”
