Forrest was sentenced to five-and-a-half years imprisonment after eloping to France with the female pupil, who was then aged 15.

Fearing their sexual relationship was about to be discovered, Forrest booked them on a ferry from Dover to Calais on 20 September last year, and they spent seven days on the run in France.

According to reports in a Sunday newspaper, the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has found a new boyfriend her own age.

The girl, known as Gemma, contacted Forrest’s parents to inform them that the relationship was over last week.

During Forrest’s trial the girl had vowed to stand by the disgraced teacher. The pair are banned from contacting each other until she turns 18.

Forrest and the girl became friends when she approached the teacher with personal problems aged 14, with their relationship beginning once the girl had turned 15.

Forrest’s wife Emily has initiated divorce proceedings.
