‘It’s real? I’m never going on a cruise’

FOR some, the centenary memorials for Titanic have appeared never-ending, with a glut of books, documentaries and dramas, but for others they have proven a real education.
Dozens of people on Twitter have confessed to being unaware that the sinking of Titanic was a true story and not just a film plot.

A screenshot of tweets from people realising the tragedy was not a figment of a film director’s imagination was first revealed on social news site Reddit.
Among the tweets were comments such as: “Only just found out Titanic was real” and “It is bad that I didn’t know the Titanic was real? Always thought it was just a film.”
A third person posted: “The Titanic was real, holy sh*t I’m never going on a cruise.” Another wrote: “I thought the Titanic was just a movie. I didn’t know it was real tho.”
One person with a firmer grasp of history responded by tweeting: “The ignorance is astounding.”
