HMS Illustrious home for repairs

HMS Illustrious returned to the UK yesterday for repairs to two holes in her hull.

The helicopter carrier had to return to Portsmouth early from exercise off Norway after colliding with a tug-boat on 9 March, the Royal Navy said.

The 22,000-tonne vessel docked at 2:30pm for repairs after an eight-week deployment to train with other Nato warships in the Arctic Circle, as part of Exercise Cold Response.
