Going the distance to honour a brother

A MAN has retraced the final footsteps of his brother who died during the Falklands War almost 30 years ago.

Royal Marine Gordon MacPherson was killed in the battle for Two Sisters, along with his comrade Corporal Frank Spencer, in June 1982.

Both served with Zulu Company, 45 Commando, based at Arbroath, Angus.

Gordon MacPherson’s brother David and Mike Cole, who was Zulu Company commander in 1982, completed a 75-mile yomp across east Falkland from Port San Carlos to Stanley.

They paid their respects at Two Sisters before completing the trip the two fallen servicemen did not manage to finish.

Mr MacPherson, 49, a decorator from Oban, Argyll, said: “I’m a 49-year-old civilian, so it was all new to me. I never thought I would get the opportunity to do anything like this. It’s the first and probably the only time I will go to the Falklands.”
