Gene Hunt voted into No10

GENE Hunt has topped a poll of TV characters people would like to see as prime minister.

The straight-talking 1980s detective from Ashes to Ashes, played by Philip Glenister, was the clear favourite with 43 per cent of votes in a survey for virginmedia.com. Doctor Who came second, with Top Gear's mystery racing driver, the Stig, trailing in third place.

Hard-drinking Frank Gallagher, of Channel 4 drama Shameless, came a surprising fourth, while Coronation Street siren Rosie "Dozy" Webster followed in fifth place.
