Fresh bid for information on death at Michael Barrymore's party

POLICE today launched a fresh appeal for information about the death of a partygoer found in a swimming pool at the home of television entertainer Michael Barrymore.

Stuart Lubbock was found floating face down in the pool at Barrymore's luxury home in Roydon, Essex.

The 31-year-old butcher had been one of a number of people attending a party there.

An inquest into Mr Lubbock's death in 2002 recorded an open verdict.

Medical experts told the hearing he had suffered severe internal injuries, suggesting he may have been the victim of a serious sexual assault.

Alcohol, cocaine and ecstasy were found in his system.

Officers said that on the ninth anniversary of Mr Lubbock's death they are still trying to find out exactly how he sustained the injuries.

"Essex Police remains completely committed to doing everything it can to establish how Stuart died and how he received his injuries," a police spokeswoman said.

"A new investigation began in 2006 and remains ongoing.

"We are convinced that somebody knows exactly what happened to Stuart, but so far they have not shared this information with us."
