Footballer charged with drink driving

A young English Premiership footballer has been charged with drink driving, police said today.

Manchester United midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe, 19, from Heywood, near Rochdale, has been charged with driving with excess alcohol and is due to appear before Bury Magistrates Court later this month a spokesman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed.

The charge relates to an incident which happened shortly before 2.15pm on Saturday when a Range Rover collided with a transit van on Green Lane, Heywood.

The van subsequently collided with the wall of a house.

One person suffered minor injuries in the collision.
