Flood message from Sir Alex Ferguson to go on show

A MESSAGE from Sir Alex Ferguson will be featured at an exhibition of postcards, messages and drawings sent by celebrities in response to last year's Cumbria floods.

More than 90 of Britain's best-known names responded to a plea from tourism chiefs to describe what they loved about the region to mark the six-month anniversary of the torrential downpours.

Many recalled memories of visiting the Lake District as children and adults.

Among those sending messages of goodwill were former Scottish legend Sir Alex, Dame Ellen MacArthur, Twiggy, Tess Daly, Sir Patrick Stewart, Andrew Flintoff and Jonny Wilkinson.

Drawings were created by former Doctor Who actor Peter Davison, comedian Leigh Francis, Sir Ben Kingsley, Elaine Paige and children's TV presenters Dick and Dom – Richard McCourt and Dominic Wood.

The exhibition will be unveiled at Cockermouth Town Hall today.
