Flood insurance claims total £1.2bn

Insurers paid out £1.19 billion for flood and storm damage across the UK during 2012, the highest annual figure in five years, a trade body has said.

About 486,000 claims were made, according to the Association of British Insurers (ABI).

Nick Starling, of the ABI, said: “Flooding is the greatest natural threat facing the UK.”
