Five arrested over murder

Five teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murdering a 16-year-old boy who was stabbed to death outside a party at a social club.

Ben Morutare, from Walsall, West Midlands, was knifed in the leg during a disturbance at the Smethwick Home Guard and Old Comrades Club in Oldbury Road, Smethwick, during the early hours of Saturday morning.

West Midlands Police said a 19-year-old man from Dudley, two 18-year-old men from Birmingham, an 18-year-old man from West Bromwich and a 17-year-old male from Birmingham were arrested on Thursday night.

Ben, who had been attending an 18th birthday party at the venue, was stabbed during a disturbance outside the club and taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

In a statement released by police, his family said he 
was “a protective son and brother” and “would never hurt 
anyone”.
