Film studio’s 50ft Hogwarts model to be highlight of new Harry Potter tour

AN INTRICATE replica of Hogwarts school has been unveiled as the centrepiece of a new Harry Potter tour.

Fans of the wizard’s adventures will get the chance to inspect the model when it goes on display at the end of the month.

Created for the film series, it took 86 artists and crew members to construct, measures more than 50ft in diameter and has more than 2,500 fibre optic lights. It will be the grand finale of the Harry Potter-themed tour at the Warner Bros’ studios north of London.

It promises to lift the lid on the making of the films inspired by JK Rowling’s best-selling fantasy novels – some 450 million books have been sold.

More than £100 million has been spent by the film-makers converting original film sets into a new tourist attraction dedicated to the most successful film franchise of all time.

About 6,000 people are expected to visit every day, and they will be able to walk around the Great Hall, look in on Harry’s dormitory and marvel at Dumbledore’s office.

John Richardson, special effects supervisor, said: “On Harry Potter, we kept everything, so now all those things are going into the studio tour.

“We’re having to rebuild them to work not just for three weeks but for 52 weeks a year and just to keep working.”
