EU referendum poll: Vote Leave vote on the rise

Support for leaving the European Union is growing, according to a clutch of new opinion polls.

A YouGov poll for The Times put Leave on 49% - up three points on last week and seven points ahead of Remain, which is down three on 39%.

A pair of ICM polls for The Guardian - one telephone, the other online - put Leave on 53%, six points ahead of Remain on 47%, if “don’t knows” are excluded.

That compares with a 52% to 48% split in favour of Leave reported by ICM two weeks ago.

ORB for the Daily Telegraph put Leave on 49% among those certain to vote on June 23, one point ahead of Remain on 48%.

Remain retains an overall lead of 49% to 44% among all ORB respondents, although support for Leave is up four points while Remain is down three.

The findings will increase concerns in the Remain camp that their message is not getting through - particularly among traditional Labour voters who are said to be strongly leaning to Leave.

The Sun has come out in favour of Leave in the EU referendum, urging readers to free their country from “dictatorial Brussels”.

In a front page editorial under the headline BeLeave in Britain, the paper warned that staying in the EU would be worse for immigration, worse for jobs, worse for wages and “worse for our way of life”.

“This is our last chance to remove ourselves from the undemocratic Brussels machine ... and it’s time to take it,” it said.

“We must set ourselves free from dictatorial Brussels. Throughout our 43-year membership of the European Union it has proved increasingly greedy, wasteful, bullying and breathtakingly incompetent in a crisis.

“Next Thursday, at the ballot box, we can correct this huge and historic mistake. It is our last chance. Because, be in no doubt, our future looks far bleaker if we stay in.”

The paper accused the Remain side of running a “nasty, cynical, personally abusive” campaign that was “beneath the dignity of Britain”.

It said that outside the EU, the UK could become richer, safer and free to forge its own destiny, while inside it would be engulfed by a “relentlessly expanding German-dominated federal state”.

- YouGov interviewed 1,905 GB adults online on June 12 and 13.

ICM Unlimited interviewed 1,000 adults by telephone between June 10 and 13, and 2,001 adults aged 18 and over online on the same dates.

The ORB sample size was 800.
