England legend Francis treated for ‘heart attack’

Former England striker Trevor Francis has been admitted to hospital following what his former club Birmingham described as a suspected heart attack.

A spokeswoman for the Birmingham Heartlands Hospital in Bordesley Green said that they had admitted the 57-year-old yesterday.

Mr Francis’ former club said they had been told that he had suffered a suspected heart attack, but that a stent had been fitted and he was recovering well.

The former footballer starred for Blues between 1970 and 1979 before becoming England’s first £1 million player when he joined Nottingham Forest. He also managed Birmingham between 1996 and 2001.

A statement on the club’s website said: “The former Blues striker and manager is much loved by everybody associated with the club and we’d like to wish Trevor a speedy recovery.”
