Duchess of Cambridge ‘takes job seriously’

THE Duchess of Cambridge’s controversial uncle, Gary Goldsmith, has described his niece as a “confident, clever, caring girl” who “has taken her responsibilities in marriage and job incredibly seriously”.

Mr Goldsmith, 47, said in his first interview that the duchess worked hard, while in contrast, everything came very easily for her sister, Pippa “Pip” Middleton.

He defended Pippa, calling on people “to give her a break”.

In the interview, he recalled how he met the Duke of Cambridge for the first time at a dinner party with the duchess.

He said: “When I saw them together you actually just thought, even if he wasn’t going to be the king, they would make a great couple.

“They were very, very good together.”

When asked if the duchess and Pippa have similar characters, he said: “They are different. Kate works really hard at everything. She is brilliant at whatever she turns her hand to, but works at it, throwing herself into everything. Whereas Pip, everything seems to come very easily.”

The Middleton family suffered scandal in July 2009 when Mr Goldsmith, who is the dudchess’s mother Carole Middleton’s younger brother, was filmed allegedly offering hard drugs to an undercover News of the World reporter. He also bragged about a holiday the duke and duchess had taken at his £5 million villa on Ibiza.

But Mr Goldsmith was said to have reformed his ways and was later invited to the couple’s wedding in April 2011.

Mr Goldsmith told how he gave the duchess an interest in fashion by buying his niece her first Gucci handbag and how, before university, she was more of a tomboy than into style.

Recalling the duke and duchess’s 2006 trip to Ibiza, he said one of his friends taught the duke to mix on the DJ decks and told how he performed to the family.
