Doctor Who writer back to children’s TV

The television writer Russell T Davies – who brought Doctor Who back to the BBC – is to return to science fiction with a new children’s series.

The CBBC series Aliens Vs Wizards will see teenage sorcerers and intergalactic invaders do battle.

Late last year, Mr Davies announced he was stepping back from his writing commitments to care for his partner who was being treated for brain cancer.

He withdrew from his work on a new drama being made in Los Angeles, called Cucumber, to return to the UK with Andrew Smith while he underwent treatment.

In the new series, two 16-year-old schoolboys will battle to keep alien invaders, known as the Nekross, at bay.

Mr Davies began his career writing for children with series such as Dark Season and Children’s Ward, and also oversaw the launch of Doctor Who spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures.
