Denture glue withdrawn

A LEADING pharmaceutical firm has stopped making a popular denture fixative on health concerns. GlaxoSmithKline says long-term use of Poligrip Ultra and Poligrip Total Care might be linked with numbness and difficulty walking.

The pharma giant said customers who had used more of the product than directed over a number of years should stop using it and seek medical advice.

A 40g tube should last about six weeks, but some people will have used more than directed because of ill-fitting dentures. As a result, this could lead to the absorption of high levels of zinc.
