THE identity of the banker on Channel 4 gameshow Deal or No Deal has been revealed.

The previously unidentified man who speaks to presenter Noel Edmonds on the phone is none other than the programme’s producer, Glenn Hugill.

Richard Osman, Endemol producer and host of gameshow Pointless, told the Metro newspaper that Hugill was the banker in a wide-ranging interview.

It has long been a rumour among fans of the quiz show that Hugill - who is best known for playing cop Alan McKenna on Coronation Street between 1996 and 1997 - was the banker.

Osman was asked how new show Two Tribes came about, and told the Metro: “[It] was an idea that Glenn Hugill - the Banker on Deal or No Deal - and I had been thinking about for a long time”.

Hugill also presented two series of Channel 5 show The Mole.
