Speaking on the first day of a trip to the region, Mr Cameron said yesterday that the prospect of Iran arming itself with nuclear weapons was a “desperately bad development for our world” and added “we should do everything we can to stop it happening.”

His comments appear to raise anxiety over Iran’s nuclear ambitions and offer a hint that direct military action could still be considered, despite an official commitment to using diplomatic means of dealing with the Middle East power.
