Court rejects attack case against soldier

A COURT martial judge has thrown out a case against a special forces corporal who was put on trial for punching a Taleban suspect he believed was trying to escape.

Judge Advocate Alistair McGrigor said the evidence against the Army soldier, referred to only as Corporal C, was “tenuous and weak”.

The ruling came after the prosecution for the single charge of battery had taken more than two years to come to trial, with referrals to both the Court Martial Court of Appeal and the High Court, causing the cost to rise to more than an estimated £250,000.
