Couple celebrate 60th anniversary after getting engaged on first date

A COUPLE have celebrated 60 years of wedded bliss – after getting engaged on their first date.

Peter and Jenny McLean have proved when you know, you really do know, six decades on from falling in love at first sight.

Former RAF serviceman Peter McLean, 78, fell “head-over-heels” for Jenny, 81, when they met at a dance in August 1951.

Peter, who served as a policeman for 29 years, took Jenny on a date a month later and proposed the same day. The lovebirds tied the knot in Peterborough, on 22 December, 1951.

The couple, who have three children, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, put their long, happy marriage down to shared hobbies and a love of Scottish dance.
