Comic Relief apologises after Boyle Queen gags

Comic Relief has apologised after Frankie Boyle fired a salvo of gags at the Queen during a fundraising concert.

The Scot was reportedly booed at the Give It Up for Comic Relief concert at Wembley Arena during a routine which included jokes about the Queen’s recent illness, the Duchess of Cambridge’s pregnancy and the Jimmy Savile scandal.

A spokesman said: “The performers gave their time free. We appreciate not all are to everyone’s taste and hope supporters haven’t been offended and continue to support Red Nose Day.”

The concert, organised by Russell Brand, featured Jack Whitehall, Noel Gallagher and Jessie J and was shown on BBC Three on Wednesday – but both Boyle’s and Whitehall’s acts were cut from the broadcast.
