Coalition is best model for UK politics, says Moore

SCOTTISH Secretary Michael Moore has insisted coalition government is the model for the future of British politics.

Speaking to The Scotsman at the Lib Dem conference ahead of flying to Edinburgh today for referendum talks with Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, Mr Moore also said Scots were better off by £1.2 billion thanks to his party pushing through a rise in the income tax threshold.

His support for coalition comes despite senior members such as party president Tim Farron, saying that after 2015 the Lib Dems should not enter a coalition but offer a “supply and confidence” deal to a minority government.

But Mr Moore revealed his speech will focus on the way his party has succeeded in government in what he hopes will be the beginning of a fightback north of the Border.

He said: “We are doing things that Labour didn’t do and things the Conservatives wouldn’t do.”
