Camelot pay out record £84m to ticket-holder

A UK ticket-holder was celebrating a record £84.4 million windfall yesterday after hitting the EuroMillions jackpot.

Camelot, operator of the National Lottery, confirmed it had paid out the prize money but said the winner opted to remain anonymous.

The ticket-holder has been catapulted into first place on the National Lottery's Rich List, ahead of Nigel Page and Justine Laycock from Cirencester, Gloucestershire, who won 56m on EuroMillions in February.

It is not known if the prize – 84,451,321 – belongs to an individual or a syndicate.

A National Lottery spokesman said: "We are unable to confirm whether the ticket-holder is an individual or part of a syndicate, however they will now be offered the full support of Camelot's Winner Services Team.

"As with all major jackpot winners, they will receive independent financial and legal advice as well as ongoing personal support.

"In addition, several previous jackpot winners have offered their support and best wishes."
