Bumper year on the menu for sprouts

CHRISTMAS dinner may prove to be a taste revelation this year, as one Brussels sprouts grower said it has been one of the “best years ever” for the vegetable.

Richard Simkin said a bumper crop of top-notch sprouts had been grown at family-run Essington Fruit Farm near Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, that sprout lovers will go mad for.

One of the main reasons the vegetable has done so well this year is because of the difference in weather compared to last winter, he said.

“Last year, if you remember, we were under about six inches of snow. Whereas this year, of course, it’s very much easier and the quality of the sprouts is very good.”
