Budget 2012: Who benefits from the reduction in the 50p rate of income tax?

THAT was Labour leader Ed Miliband’s challenge to the coalition Cabinet in his reply to the Budget speech. Well, The Scotsman has done the research, and here’s the answer (based on the most recent figures from October 2010).

1 NICK CLEGG: in addition to his £134,000 Cabinet salary he brought in £23,700 in additional earnings.

2 DAVID CAMERON: in addition to his £142,500 salary, the PM pulled in £18,500 in donations, free flights, etc.

3 GEORGE OSBORNE: in addition to his £134,000 salary, another £137,000 was on his register of interests for 2010.

4 WILLIAM HAGUE (behind Mr Osborne): in addition to his £134,000 salary, his 2010 register of interest recorded another £25,000.

5 FRANCIS MAUDE: about £30,000 was recorded on his register of interests on top of £134,000 salary.
