Brits who attend terror camps will lose passports

People who attend terror training camps abroad will be barred from holding a British passport, the home secretary announced yesterdays.

Theresa May said the need to disrupt individuals who travel to terror camps abroad had become “increasingly apparent” and warned in a statement to MPs that British citizens had no absolute right to hold a passport.

She said the Royal Prerogative gives the home secretary the power to refuse or withdraw passports and, while this must be used “sparingly”, the new guidance in the statement would come into effect.

Mrs May said: “Passport facilities may be refused to or withdrawn from British nationals who may seek to harm the UK or its allies by travelling on a British passport to, for example, engage in terrorism-related activity or other serious or organised criminal activity.

“This may include individuals who seek to engage in fighting, extremist activity or terrorist training outside the United Kingdom, and then return to the UK with enhanced capabilities that they then use to conduct an attack on UK soil. The need to disrupt people who travel for these purposes has become increasingly apparent.”
