Briton dies in island swim

A 20-year-old Briton died 
yesterday after getting into 
difficulties while swimming off the Maltese island of Comino, police said.

A spokesman for the local police said the man had been swimming in the Bay of Santa Marija.

“He was assisted by some people who were in the area and brought to shore and given first aid.

“He was taken to Mater Dei hospital by a helicopter from the armed forces, but unfortunately has died.”

Police said they were continuing to investigate the incident. The spokesman did not have a name for the victim.

The Foreign Office last night said it had no information on the incident.
