20 January 2006: One British soldier injured by roadside bomb in Basra. A military spokesman said the soldier was wounded at about 8am local time in the blast while on patrol in the city.

20 November 2005: Four soldiers injured, one very seriously, in bomb attack on routine two vehicle armoured Land Rover patrol in northern Basra. Sergeant John Jones of the 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers died in the attack

18 October 2005: Two soldiers injured and one killed by improvised explosive device (IED) on road southwest out of Basra. Sergeant Chris Hickey of 1st Battalion the Coldstream Guards died. A lieutenant suffered a serious eye injury and burst eardrums. Sergeant Andy Wilkinson, of the 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery, suffered a shrapnel wound in the ankle.

19 September 2005: Five soldiers injured in two separate but related incidents. Two special forces soldiers suffered injuries after being arrested by Iraqi police in Basra. The MoD said three more soldiers were injured in subsequent disturbances in the city. Pictures showed Sgt George Long jumping from the turret of his Warrior armoured vehicle with his uniform on fire.

11 September 2005: Three soldiers were injured and Major Matthew Bacon was killed when an armoured Land Rover was hit by an IED in Basra.

21 August 2005: BBC reports one soldier wounded by roadside bomb in the Tariq district of Basra.

6 August 2005: BBC reports one soldier wounded by roadside bomb in the Gzeiza area of Basra.

16 July 2005: Two soldiers injured and three killed - Second Lieutenant Richard Shearer, Private Leon Spicer and Private Phillip Hewett - all from the 1st Battalion the Staffordshire Regiment, during three vehicle armoured Land Rover night patrol in suburb of town of Al Amarah, 160 miles north of Basra.

29 May 2005: Four soldiers injured and Lance Corporal Alan Brackenbury of The King's Royal Hussars died when a roadside bomb exploded next to their vehicles as they travelled to a meeting with Iraqi security officials.

16 June 2005: One soldier injured in south-east Baghdad by roadside bomb. Taken to hospital and released. No details given of which hospital but likely to have been treated in US facility.

2 May 2005: One soldier injured and Guardsman Anthony John Wakefield 24, from the 1st Bn Coldstream Guards, killed during routine two vehicle armoured Land Rover patrol in Al Amarah.

9 January 2005: One soldier injured by mortar rounds landing near tents in the Shatt Al Arab Hotel base, Basra.

10 November 2004: MoD said two soldiers injured in seperate attacks close to Camp Dogwood, southwest of Baghdad. A Lynx helicopter pilot was badly by small arms fire and taken to a US military hospital in Baghdad. A Black Watch soldier was injured by mortar fire hitting the base.

8 November 2004: Two soldiers injured and Private Pita Tukutukuwaqa of the 1st Battalion The Black Watch was killed when their Warrior was hit by a roadside bomb north of Camp Dogwood. Injured, also from the Black Watch, taken to a US military hospital in Baghdad.

8 November 2004: Two soldiers, one from Royal Logistics Corps and the other from the Royal Signals, badly wounded in suicide bombing near Camp Dogwood. One was reported to have lost both legs.

4 November 2004: Eight Black Watch soldiers wounded and three – Sergeant Stuart Gray, Private Paul Lowe and Private Scott McArdle – killed in a suicide car-bomb attack on a vehicle check-point in Camp Dogwood area.

29 October 2004: Three Black Watch soldiers injured and one – Private Kevin McHale – killed when their Warrior turned over on the way to camp Dogwood.

28 September 2004: Two soldiers – Corporal Marc Taylor, Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers, and Gunner David Lawrence, Royal Artillery – killed when military convoy ambushed south-west of Basra. The two soldiers killed had gone to the aid of injured colleagues whose vehicle was hit by a rocket propelled grenade (RPG). No details were given of the number of injured. Lawrence's troop commander Captain Derek Gilbert said that he had survived another attack a few days earlier in which three other soldiers had been injured by shrapnel.

26 October 2004: MoD reveals that 48 soldiers from the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment (PWRR) were injured in clashes in Al Amarah and Basra during the summer and autumn.

17 September 2004: One soldier shot in stomach when shots fired from office of radical Shia cleric Muqtadr al-Sadr in Basra, according to military spokesman Captain Hisham Halawi. Details of regiment not released.

24 April 2004: Details emerge of RPG attack on Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders patrol near Basra in which two soldiers injured. Captain Robert Grieve suffers shrapnel wound, second soldier flown back to UK with shrapnel in eye.

5 March 2004: Seven soldiers from 1st Battalion, Light Infantry injured during a gunfight near Basra. Fired on by heavy machine guns and a rocket propelled grenade on a routine patrol in the the village of Qal at Sahil. Sergeant Glen Cooper suffered a back injury. MoD said some may be flown home.

18 November 2003: MoD spokesman Charlie Mayo reports two man crew of one Land Rover injured in one of four booby trap bomb attacks over previous seven days.

10 November: One soldier injured when a land mine explodes in the Basra.

29 October 2003: Two soldiers injured in road bomb attack in the Basra.

9 August 2003: Reports that several British soldiers recovering from injuries after being attacked by stone-throwing crows in Basra. Witnesses said three British soldiers were injured by stones. BBC reports seven soldiers hospitalised. Military spokesman denied any soldiers were hurt. Four days later, Lt. Col. Jorge Mendonca, commanding officer of Queen's Lancashire Regiment, confirms that 21 soldiers were wounded by stab wounds or thrown bricks or rocks during the riots.

8 July 2003: One soldier injured in attack by two Iraqi gunmen while patrolling on the outskirts of Basra.

25 March 2003: Two soldiers wounded and two – Corporal Stephen Allbutt and David Clarke, both from Queen's Royal Lancers – killed when Challenger 2 tank hit by round from another British tank.

March, date unknown: Sgt Albert Thomson hit by bullets fired accidentally by a British Warrior vehicle as he walked in front of it outside the town of Az Zubayr. He lost a leg.

March, date unkown: Corporal Scott Garthley badly injured by Iraqi missile attack on British position on Kuwaiti border. Needed eight operations on spine, shoulders, stomach and knees. MoD reports that surface-to-surface missile landed near Camp Commando in Kuwait but no casualties were suffered.

March, date unknown: Corporal Dave Corrigan, serving as a field ambulance commander, suffers serious knee injury during heavy fighting at Adaiya in southern Iraq.
