British boxers David Haye and Dereck Chisora in bareknuckle brawl shame

He was stopped by detectives at Munich airport yesterday morning as he attempted to board a flight back to the UK.

Chisora and his trainer Don Charles were taken to police headquarters in Munich for questioning. A police spokesman also confirmed they were still searching for fellow boxer David Haye.

Chisora went for Haye at the press conference following his defeat in the WBC title fight against Vitali Klitschko.

After losing the 12-round fight, Chisora mocked Haye at a press conference for his poor performance against Klitschko’s brother Wladimir last year and tried to goad his rival into a future bout. Chisora then confronted Haye, with their entourages getting involved.

Still clutching his microphone, Chisora left the stage where he was seated next to his manager Frank Warren, made his way through the assembled media and challenged Haye to a fight.

“You’ve really lost it this time Haye,” Chisora said. In the melee Haye’s manager Adam Booth suffered facial cuts while Haye traded punches with Chisora’s trainer Don Charles before appearing to swing a camera tripod at him. Chisora was seemingly heard making threats and claiming to have been “glassed”.

Police have confirmed they are considering charges of grievous bodily harm against Chisora and are investigating Haye too.

But according to police, Haye left Munich at 6:00am yesterday before they could speak to him.

Police said they are scrutinising videotapes to try to determine what happened and if others should be prosecuted.

But it is understood police consider Haye the victim in the fight and charges are unlikely.

A police spokesman said: He said: “Police picked up Mr Chisora at the airport at approximately 10:30am (German time) and are bringing him in for the investigation.

“They also picked up Mr Chisora’s trainer for questioning. At present we do not know where Mr Haye is.”

Vitali Klitschko, who won the bout in the ring on points, said: “I have respect for Chisora as a fighter, but not as a human being. I heard him say ‘I will shoot you’. You can’t be allowed to say such things.”

When the brawling ended, Chisora was screaming at Haye: “I will burn you!”

Klitschko’s manager Bernd Boente said: “Such scenes I have previously only witnessed among the fans of certain English football clubs. Chisora is really sick.”

Police will present a file to prosecutors today recommending Chizora face affray, assault and threatening behaviour charges, said media reports. He may face a hefty fine as financial penalties in Germany are levied according to income.

When former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher was involved in a punch-up at Munich’s Bayerischer Hof hotel in 2002 he was fined £170,000.

Chisora has already been informed he must pay £31,500 to a charity for slapping Klitschko at the weigh-in on Friday.
