Body found buried in garden of Kray friend

POLICE were yesterday trying to identify a body found buried under the patio of a cancer-stricken friend of the Kray twins.

The back garden of Roy Heath, 52, who is terminally ill, was dug up after police received a tip-off that there was a body there.

A team of forensic archaeologists uncovered the remains, wrapped in carpet underlay in the garden of Heath's ground-floor flat in Fulham, west London.

It is believed Heath had links to gangland boss Reggie Kray, whom he met in prison, and carried out work for the infamous brothers.

The body was taken to a mortuary in a coffin on Wednesday and police are still waiting to identify the skeleton.

A senior police source said: "The body was found in a grave about 3ft deep.

"It's still wrapped in the underlay at the moment, so we cannot say if it is male or female.

"We didn't want to unwrap it yesterday as we would have lost a lot of forensic evidence.

"A pathologist will examine the body later today. The rest of the day will be spent carrying out further forensic tests on the grave and the rest of the garden."

Police were told in 1997 that Heath had murdered a business rival, but nothing could be proved.
