Big Brother’s Josie supports drug-crime grandmother

FORMER Big Brother contestant Josie Gibson was in court yesterday to support her grandmother, who is facing jail for drug offences.

The reality TV star joined other members of her family at Bristol Crown Court to see Diane Gibson, 72, sentenced. She had been on the run for more than 12 years, having been convicted in 2000 of possessing cocaine with intent to supply.

Police arrested the grandmother last month at a relative’s home in Gloucestershire.

The case was adjourned for five weeks at the request of her barrister, Giles Nelson, to allow medical reports to be compiled, which may affect sentencing.

He told Judge Michael Longman that Gibson suffered from heart problems and was seeing specialists at hospitals in Bristol.

“The upshot is that she is using a wheelchair because of heart problems and blood pressure, which has affected her mobility,” Mr Nelson said.

He said Gibson still maintained her innocence and an earlier appeal had been rejected.

Remanding the pensioner in custody, the judge told her: “I am adjourning until 10 June so that those defending you can find out further information that may assist you.”

Gibson replied: “Yes sir. I am not guilty anyway.”
