Bee Gee Robin being treated for inflamed colon

SINGER Robin Gibb remained in hospital yesterday for treatment to an inflamed colon. The Bee Gees star, below, was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford on Thursday for tests. He was accompanied by his wife Dwina.

The 61-year-old had to cancel a series of performances in Brazil earlier this year on the advice of doctors. He had to pull out of a radio interview on Friday due to his illness.

Last year, Gibb underwent surgery for a blocked intestine, the same condition which led to the death of his twin brother, Maurice, in 2003. Robin was performing in Belgium when struck by sudden pain. A section of his intestine was later removed. It was subsequently revealed that if he had not undergone emergency surgery he could have been dead “within two hours”.

With his group, which also included elder brother Barry, Gibb notched up decades of chart hits including 1970s’ disco tracks from the film Saturday Night Fever. The Bee Gees are one of the most successful pop acts of all time with record sales estimated at more than 100 million. Their hits include Stayin’ Alive and their songs have also been performed by stars such as Diana Ross, Dolly Parton and Al Green.
