BBC staff vote for two 24-hour strikes

JOURNALISTS at BBC Scotland have voted for two 24-hour strikes in protest at compulsory redundancies.

Members of the National Union of Journalists across television, radio and online will walk out at midnight on Friday 22 March and again on Monday 25 March in protests that are expected to disrupt news and programmes such as Reporting Scotland and Good Morning Scotland.

The union said: “None of us wants to strike, and we hope the decision to take this action will focus the minds of BBC Scotland’s senior management, to finally work towards re-deploying our colleagues and friends.”

Last night a spokesman for the BBC said: “We understand how frustrating and difficult situations involving redundancies can be and we are working hard to ensure that we succeed in getting staff redeployed wherever we can.”
